Construction has started on the new Airport Fire Station on the eastern end of Coutts Street near the pedestrian and cycle tunnel under the airport. Several residential houses next to the airport runway were removed for this work to begin. Existing public space at the end of Coutts St will be enhanced.
In the proposal for this shift the old Airport Fire Station land was proposed to accommodate electric aircraft. We look forward in hearing more about electric planes in the future from Wellington Airport.
